The championship course is synonymous with the natural beauty of Mauritius, one of the best on the island with views of the mountainous landscape while the fairways are surrounded by beautiful casuarina trees and vibrant floral species.
As a challenge for even the elite players in the game the course is also a fun test for high-handicappers with a design which lends itself to all styles of play and can be hugely rewarding. Measuring at 5,982 metres, the layout isn’t long by modern standards but can be deceiving at times, with some shorter yet trickier par-5s and longer par-3s.
Your round will start with a fairly generous par-4 with a nice, open fairway to aim for, followed by a couple of risk-reward holes with some gentle elevation changes and doglegging. The first par-3 of the round comes at the 4th hole and is 200m from tee to green, which is the first real test and food for thought. After a relatively short, straight forward par-5 at the 5th, the 7th is much longer and plays into wind; a straight and long drive here is the ideal set-up to get to the green in regulation.
The front nine ends with a good birdie chance at the 9th if you can avoid the heavy bunkering but heading back towards the clubhouse you’ll have to bring your A game as it gets a bit tougher. Holes 13, 14 and 15 all feature large water hazards in the shape of ponds, lakes and island greens and while tricky to operate around, make for some incredibly beautiful holes of golf. The round finishes with an incredibly dramatic closing hole, a par-5 which will leave golfers wanting to experience it all again as soon as possible.
