Portmarnock Links

Despite its relative youth Portmarnock Links has forged such a strong reputation that it is now held in the same high regard as other, more established, world-class links courses in the UK and Ireland. The Portmarnock Links opened to great acclaim in June 1995 and has been receiving accolades from visiting golf writers and top professionals ever since. Bernhard Langer has used all of his considerable golfing experience to create a classic links of the very highest order.

Host to many top amateur and professional events including the 2008 & 2009 Ladies Irish Open, this championship links boasts all of the features inherent to a classic links course. Elevated tees, blind approaches, sweeping undulations, devilish pot bunkers and, of course, the typical links sea breezes are all present and they combine to offer golfers of all abilities an authentic and infinitely enjoyable test of links golf. As with many of the top class links courses around the UK and Ireland, Portmarnock was built on perfect sandy links turf and as such the course drains exceptionally well, thus allowing golfers to play all year round.

Following a day on the fairways, golfers can enjoy a light bite in either the Jameson Bar, that is situated in the Jameson House or retire to the Seaview for breathtaking views of the sea and golf course.

A great place to visit when staying and playing in Dublin. The golf course at Portmarnock Links is a very good challenge even when the wind is calm. I was on track to playing to my handicap but found a fairway bunker on the 18th...just one of the many hazards in play when you are playing here. There's a host of great par-3's and tricky par-4's. The hotel is near to Malahide which is a great night out and well worth a visit when in the area.

Absolutely superb course with awesome facilities. Built on the Jameson Whisky owners estate you get a great intro to the course and surroundings by Steven “the rock” Craig that sets the day up nicely. The course itself is a true links course and the greens are slick and undulating which provide a stern test. The dunes are very high which really effect the wind and you’ve got to plot your way not just grip and rip. My personal favourite of the three courses we played on our trip. If playing here look at Portmarnock Old, The Island, and the several others in the surround would be my advice.

arrived at portmarnock golf links and went into the pro shop, gave the gentleman my name and our tee time which we thought was 12.10 as i had not received any other info saying that this had changed. however the gentleman informed us that our tee time actually wasn't until 1pm. The speed of play was too slow we were waiting at every hole, and we didn't even get to finish our round as it was dark around 12 holes. pretty disappointed as had we known our tee time was so late we probably would not have booked to play. other than that what we seen and played of the golf course was lovely.

It's not a bad course layout with quite a few interesting "Risk and Reward" Holes. Greens weren't in great condition considering the time of year and we were a bit unlucky as the fairways and run off areas had recently been Verticut.
