Fantastic course, location and condition. I would even be so bold as to say possibly the best course I have played. This I a real challenge and the location on the Atlantic coast means that the weather adds to that challenge. The course starts out in such a way that the complexity and challenge gradually builds. Don’t be lured into a false sense of security by the wide first fairway they narrow and demand an accurate drive as the round progresses. As with Tralee another definite course to play again in the future.
The magnificent links at Waterville are now owned by a small group of fanatical Irish-Americans who, like many, fell in love with this enchanting place on first sight.
Golf has been played on the site at Waterville Golf Links since 1889 for golfers involved in the laying of transatlantic cables. The course has undergone many changes since the 1960's and started to become the sought after course it is today when in the 1980's Waterville was acquired by the Wall Street Irish-Americans who attracted the likes of Tom Fazio to improve the course we see today.
Waterville was used as a base by Mark O'Meara and Tiger Woods ahead of O'Meara's Open Championship win at Royal Birkdale and continues to be a breathtaking test of links golf.
